Packers vs Bears

Chicago Bears (0-0) at Green Bay Packers (0-0)

NFL Football: Sunday, September 9, 2018 at 8:20 pm (Lambeau Field)
The Line: Green Bay Packers -8 — Over/Under: 47.5

Packers vs Bears

The Chicago Bears will be looking to bounce back after finishing in the basement of the NFC North for the 4th straight season, finishing 5-11 and missing out on the playoffs for the seventh straight season. Mitch Trubisky will have the reins all to himself for the Chicago offense after throwing for just under 2,200 yards, 7 touchdowns and 7 picks on 59.4% passing last season.

Jordan Howard is back to lead the Bears’ ground attack after rushing for 1,122 yards and 9 TDs last season but will have to rely on Taylor Gabriel and Allen Robinson II after losing top receiver Kendall Wright to the Minnesota Vikings. On defense, Akiem Hicks, Kyle Fuller and Prince Amukamara will be some of the key pieces tasked with helping the Bears maintain a top-10 defense in terms of total yardage and against the pass while finishing just outside the top-10 against the rush last season.

The Green Bay Packers will be looking to rebound as well after going through their first losing season since 2008, finishing with a 7-9 record. The Pack looked promising after starting 4-1, but a collarbone injury to starting QB Aaron Rodgers derailed Green Bay’s season and sent the Packers on a downward spiral out of the playoffs.

As mentioned, Aaron Rodgers is back under center after throwing for 1,836 yards, 9 touchdowns and 12 interceptions in an abbreviated season while Jamaal Williams is back to lead Green Bay on the ground after racking up a team-high 556 rushing yards and 4 touchdowns last season. Davante Adams and Randall Cobb are back as one of the more dynamic 1-2 receiving punches in the NFL after combining for 140 catches, 1,538 yards and 14 touchdowns last season.

Chicago is 5-11 ATS in their last 16 road games and 1-5-1 ATS in their last 7 games against the NFC while the under is 6-0 in their last 6 games overall. Green Bay is 1-4 ATS in their last 5 home games and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 division matchups while the over is 22-7 in their last 29 games overall. Chicago is 10-25-1 ATS in the last 36 meetings between these two teams and 2-5 ATS in the last 7 meetings between these two teams in Green Bay.

Green Bay has won 16 of the last 19 meetings between these two teams and if we take out the last meeting where Rodgers was injured, the Pack have actually won 10 of the last 11 meetings by at least eight points, which is what the line is at at the time of posting this pick. The Packers simply have an edge in pretty much every department offensively, and the defense can’t be as bad as it was last season. I need Chicago to prove me wrong before I can install any faith in the Bears, so I’ll lay the points with the Packers on Sunday night.

Packers vs Steelers Live Streaming, how to watch

The Green Bay Packers are back and they will face the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday night at Lambeau Field. This will be the final preseason.

The Green Bay Packers will host their second preseason game at home against the Pittsburgh Steelers Thursday night. Green Bay last hosted Pittsburgh during the preseason in 1996, resulting in a 24-17 win for the home team. Including the regular season, this will be the fourth meeting between the two teams since 2013.

The Packers are coming off of a 31-17 win over the Tennesee Titans last Thursday. Despite sitting 18 players, the Packers offense moved well and Mike Pettine’s (intended) vanilla defense kept the Titans in check.

This week may be different, as quarterback Aaron Rodgers may see his first action at Lambeau since Green Bay’s 35-14 win over the Chicago Bears on Sept. 28, 2017.

“The goal is to play Aaron on Thursday,” said McCarthy on Tuesday morning. “Coordination of who he plays with is part of that decision. But yeah, definitely, that’s the goal for him to play.”

McCarthy’s words hint to the state of the offensive line. While David Bakhtiari and Bryan Bulaga returned to practice this week, it’s not known if either of the starting tackles will play. If they do, expect to see Rodgers on the field for a series.

Meanwhile, Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said Tuesday Ben Roethlisberger Landry Jones, Antonio Brown, and Cameron Hayward are not expected to play. A few other veteran players are likely to sit out as well.

Thursday’s game will be televised over the 18-station Packers TV Network throughout the state of Wisconsin, Upper Michigan, northeastern Minnesota, Peoria in Illinois, the Quad Cities, Cedar Rapids-Waterloo and Des Moines in Iowa, Omaha in Nebraska, Sioux Falls in South Dakota and Anchorage, Fairbanks and Juneau in Alaska.

CBS’s Kevin Harlan (play-by-play) and former Packer James Lofton (analyst) will call the game from the broadcast booth with Lance Allan of WTMJ-TV reporting from the sidelines. Allan will also host a half-hour pregame show.

The game can be heard over Milwaukee’s WTMJ (620 AM) and the Packers Radio Network, which is made up of 50 stations in five states. Wayne Larrivee (play-by-play) and Larry McCarren (analyst) will call the game.

Packers vs. Steelers

The Green Bay Packers are set to take on the Pittsburgh Steelers in the friendly confines of Lambeau Field on Thursday, Aug. 16 at 7pm CT. Both the Packers and Steelers head into the game at 1-0 and will look to remain undefeated in the all-important preseason.

The Green Bay Packers made the perfect start to preseason last week, defeating the Tennessee Titans at Lambeau Field. More important than the final score was the play of many of the young players on the roster.

Packers vs. Steelers

There’s still a lot of work to do between now and the regular season opener against the Chicago Bears on September 9, both on the practice field and in live game action. The Packers’ next preseason test comes at home to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday night.

The Steelers themselves kicked off preseason in style, defeating the Super Bowl-champion Philadelphia Eagles. Again, the score isn’t important. Many of the starters on both sides of the football were rested.

Will we see more starters on the field this week? Could the likes of Aaron Rodgers, Jimmy Graham or Muhammad Wilkerson get some game time? Similarly for the Steelers, will Ben Roethlisberger or Antonio Brown play at all on Thursday night? Even if the answer is yes for all of those players, their game time will be limited.

Once again, this is another audition for many of the young players on the roster. Here’s five things to watch on Thursday night against the Pittsburgh Steelers at Lambeau.
